Shawn Stewart McAfee

Shawn Stewart McAfee, 47, of Marietta, departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, March 14th, 2016. Born in Marietta, GA, Shawn was a graduate of Marietta High School, and attended North Georgia College (NGC) in Dahlonega, GA where he served in the Corps of Cadets and a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He graduated from NGC with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and went on to a very successful career in the both the marketing and banking business sectors. Shawn eventually answered the call of duty and joined the Georgia Army National Guard where he became a Combat Medic in the 48th Brigade’s 108th Cavalry Regiment in Calhoun, GA, rising to the rank of Sergeant in the Medical Corps. Shawn deployed with members of the 108th Cavalry on a combat tour to Operation Iraqi Freedom III in 2005 where he earned the Combat Medical Badge. Soon after his return from Iraq, Shawn submitted his Warrant Officer packet and went on to become a Chief Warrant Officer in the Military Intelligence Branch for the Georgia Army National Guard’s 221st Military Intelligence Battalion, and would eventually rise to the rank of CW2. While serving in the Guard, Shawn gained employment with a defense contractor and deployed to Afghanistan to serve in the Intelligence field, and contributed greatly to America’s continued fight in the Global War on Terrorism. In 2015, CW2 McAfee again answered his nation’s call and volunteered to deploy to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait where he led a team that supported US Army Central Command’s intelligence operations in Southwest Asia. Shawn’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal w/2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, The Overseas Service Ribbon, the Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, the Combat Medical Badge, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/M Device, the Global War on Terrorism Service Ribbon, and the Iraqi Campaign Ribbon. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at 2:30 p.m. at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton with Patriot Guard escort. Survivors include his Son, Amaury Scott and Amaury’s mother, Gersende de la Tribouille; parents, Scott and Jean McAfee; brother, Greg McAfee and sister in-law, Mary Ann McAfee; his nephews, Hunter and Hayden McAfee; several loving cousins, aunts, uncles, and in-laws; and a very strong and loving network of Fraternity, Church, and Army brothers and sisters.
