Stanton F Hosler

Stan Hosler, 70, of Marietta, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021, surrounded by his loving daughter and family. He is survived by his daughter, Sydney (Craig) D’Arcy, two grandchildren, Katherine D’Arcy and Christian D’Arcy, three nieces, Nicole Volkert, Victoria Zackert, Elizabeth Hosler, and one nephew, Dr. Matthew Hosler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pauline and Harold Hosler and his brother, Dr. Mark Hosler. Stan’s early life was spent in Missouri where he graduated from Higginsville High School in 1968. After high school, he enrolled at Southwest Baptist University, where he actively participated in the college’s drama program and played intramural football. He received his B.S. in Education and graduated in 1972. Upon graduating college, he remained in Missouri where he taught at Morrisville High School and Higginsville High School as an English teacher and drama coach. After his brief teaching career, he made the decision to pursue business opportunities in Springfield, MO, where he worked with Farmers Insurance Group. Then he worked for the Contel Corporation, initially in Russellville, AR, until he was transferred to the corporate office in Atlanta, GA. The experience working in the corporate world led to a long business career including roles with many large companies as well as successfully owning and operating his own business, Stylus Communications. Stan was a teacher, coach, friend and mentor to countless people he touched throughout his life. In business, he had success in sales, marketing and business communications, but his core talent was teaching. He could lead a room of business people to collaborate and make decisions while they were watching and waiting for his next word or thought scribbled on a white board. His presence was larger than life. Stan was a lifelong learner, showing interests in many topics including science, theology, art, history, geography and music. He always had a unique and educated point of view and willingness to share and listen to what others had to say. He offered generous insights and was genuinely interested in yours. Stan leaves behind a large and diverse group of fans and friends. Most who knew him well recognized his intense passion for music. His lifelong interest produced a massive collection of various genres and artists. He shared his love of music by often making playlists to give to his friends and family. He made us fans of music we didn’t even know existed and he couldn’t hide his joy in telling the stories and sharing his music. So many of us will miss his intellect, charisma, curiosity, generosity and humor, but most of all his frequent written correspondence, including his colorful postcards. Today is a good day to play your favorite music, open a book, learn something new and send a postcard to someone you care about. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Bristol Hospice for making his last months as comfortable as possible. Due to Covid case numbers and concerns, a memorial service will be delayed, possibly to be held in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society.
