Sue Bishop Davis

Sue Bishop Davis, our beloved “Aunt Sue”, passed peacefully in her sleep at home on September 4, 2024. A lifelong resident of Cobb County, Sue was born on July 26, 1930, in Marietta, GA to Benjamin Hemphill (B.H.) and Mary Florence Hicks Bishop. Sue was a lifetime member of New Hope United Methodist Church, serving in every aspect including youth group counselor, choir member, United Methodist Women member and overall goodwill ambassador. She loved fellowship and looked forward to the Top of the Hill lunch bunch each week. Sue graduated from Osborne High School in 1947 and worked for Strother Ford and Capital Cadillac where she met the love of her life, Uncle Tommy. Sue married Thomas Lee Davis, Jr. (Tommy) of Marietta, GA on May 22, 1954. They were married for 54 years. Sue and Tommy shared a great love story and wonderful life together. They lived life to the fullest enjoying great adventures by boat, plane, motorcycle, and airstream. They enjoyed spending time outdoors, weekends at the lake, weeks at the beach, and traveling the states with their airstream club called “De Alley Cats”. Aunt Sue was the eternal optimist. She had a zest for life and was a friend to all who knew her. She welcomed you with open arms and lots of love. She was outgoing, funny, faithful, and strong. She loved socializing, spending time with family and friends, and was always ready to go. She was a great cook with a legacy of family recipes and enjoyed entertaining. Everyone loved Aunt Sue, and you better call her “Aunt Sue” if you were lucky enough to belong to her. Aunt Sue also enjoyed gardening and had a tender heart for animals who were as equally drawn to her. Aunt Sue was a bright light in this world and will continue shining in our hearts forever. Rest in peace our beloved Aunt Sue. We miss you already! Sue is survived by her nephew Ben Bishop (Dana) of Marietta; niece, Dr. Elizabeth Bishop McGee (Stephen Williams) of Marietta; nephew Joe Chastain (Victoria) of Marietta; 9 great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great nieces and nephews. Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Lee Davis, Jr.; parents, Benjamin Hemphill (B.H.) and Mary Florence Hicks Bishop; sisters Louise Bishop Chastain and Anne Bishop Mitchell; and brother Neil Bishop. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2024, at New Hope United Methodist Church in Marietta with Rev. Andrew Cunningham officiating. Interment will take place at New Home Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at New Hope UMC.
