Thomas (Tom) Henry Steed

Thomas (Tom) Henry Steed of Marietta, Georgia passed away October 5, 2010 at his home after an extended illness. Tom was born in Centre, Alabama to mother, Louise Scroggin Steed and father, Theo C. Steed. Tom was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend whom will be greatly missed by all he touched during his life. He came to Marietta after graduating from Cherokee High School, Centre, Alabama. He started his building career on the Southside of Atlanta as a superintendent. Then he went out on his own founding Springville Corporation in 1976 named after the original name of Powder Springs. He was known for building quality homes, both speculative and presales. He also developed several Cobb communities. His last project prior to retirement in 2002 was a loft development in downtown Atlanta. Tom was known for his lively sense of humor and his enjoyment of life. Tom loved his church, family, golf and travel. He was an active member of North Metro Church of Marietta, GA 30064. Tom is survived by his wife, Charolette Morris Steed of Marietta; three sons and daughters in law, Thomas M. Steed and his wife, Bennea, Richard G.Steed and his wife, Leigh and Harris Morris, Jr. and Jayne Ford of Denver, Colorado; two sisters, Lorraine Steed Frady and husband, Jack of Powder Springs, GA, Sara Steed Bowen of Atlanta, Georgia; two brothers, Theo Scroggin Steed and wife, Iva of Chattanooga, TN, Lane Steed and wife, Linda of Marietta, Georgia; six grandchildren, Trey Steed, Sara Margaret Steed, Maisie Steed, Kendall Steed, Will Morris and Elle Morris; one great grandson, Benjamin Steed; a host of loving and devoted nieces, nephews and cousins remain. Visitation will be held at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, GA from 5:00 to 8:00 on Friday. A memorial celebration of Tom’s life will be held at North Metro Church at 11:00 am Saturday. Interment will be held at the family Mausoleum at Concord Baptist Church, Harmony Road and Highway 101, Temple, Georgia at 2:30 pm.
