Thomas Eugene Albright

Thomas Eugene Albright, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 in Marietta, Georgia. He was 68. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2011 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home Chapel, 180 Church Street in Marietta with Pastor Doug Harris officiating. Burial will be at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. Tom was born in Memphis, TN, in 1942 to Julia and Robert Albright. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he spent his career in the food industry. In 1967, he married Suzanna Elizabeth Petty. They moved to Georgia in 1972. Known as “Big Tom” to his many friends, he loved to cook, fish, play golf and root for the University of Tennessee football team. A bear of a man, Tom’s heart was as big as his presence. If he said “you’re family,” you were for life. Tom was a member of the American Legion, serving on the board of directors of Horace Orr Post 29 for several years. He organized the annual Post charity golf tournament and served on committees and fundraisers for various charity events. In addition to his beloved wife of 43 years, Suzanna, Tom is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Kay & Brian Sammons of Acworth, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Elizabeth Ann (Lisa) & Jeremi Ragsdale of Cartersville, GA; grandchildren, Brian Thomas Baker of Kennesaw, GA; Cody Thomas Ledford of Acworth, GA; Christopher Lee Ledford of Acworth, GA; Amanda Sammons of Palm Coast, FL; Malorie Ragsdale of Cartersville, GA; Josh Sammons & wife, Keri of Acworth, GA; great granddaughter, Hailey Sammons of Acworth, GA and honorary granddaughter, Madison Faith Davis of Cartersville, GA. Survivors include Tom’s sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby & Ray Rachel of Bastrop, LA and Dorothy and Howard Ainsworth of Arlington, TN; sister, Martha Sue McCreight of Millington, TN; brother-in-law, Robert Petty of Tampa, FL and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Albright and John Albright and his granddaughter, Carrie Michelle David.
