Tommie Dickey Bevel

Tommie Dickey Bevel, 96, of Marietta, GA died May 19, 2017. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Sunday with the service following at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta with Dr. Bill Camp officiating. Interment will follow at Georgia Memorial Park in Marietta. Tommie was born to Ella May Evans Dickey in Ranger, Gordon County, GA on August 15, 1920. She graduated from Reinhardt University in June 1940, with a degree in Home Economics and married Henry L. Thacker, Sr. on December 25, 1940. One son, Dr. Henry L. Thacker, Jr. was born to the couple on February 28, 1944. Both preceded her in death. She married Wayne E. Bevel on February 12, 1959. He also, preceded her in death. As a member of Roswell Street Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School for over 50 years and until her health declined, she attended regularly. Tommie taught school, worked for Sears and Roebuck, and went to work for the Veteran’s Administration on July 1, 1946. In March 1954, she was transferred to Dobbins Air Force Base’s Accounting Department. She retired August 9, 1980 after 34 years with the Federal Service. Twenty of those years were spent in a supervisory capacity in the Accounting and Finance Office of the base. Survivors include granddaughter, Claire Adriana Thacker Langley of Jackson, MS; daughter-in-love, Mary M. Thacker of Pearl, MS. She had three step-children, Bill E. Daniels of Rome, GA, Melanie S. Pruitt of Dahlonega, GA, and was preceded in death by Gary D. Daniels of Birmingham, AL. Constantly present during Tommie’s life at The Parc at Piedmont were: cousin, Joy Weaver; sister-in-law, Pat Bevel; and friends, Margaret and Bob Wallace. Without them, Tommie’s life would have been more challenging. Tommie will be remembered by all as a faithful wife, loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, wonderful friend, respected employee and, most of all, a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, her LORD and Savior.
