On May 25th 1927 in a small white washed and thatch roofed cottage known as Onagh, a girl was born. Onagh sat in the bosom of the Glencree valley and the Wicklow hills near the village of Enniskerry in the “Garden of Ireland”, County Wicklow, and alongside the Dargle River in the shadow Sugarloaf Mountain. A more beautiful place to start life there never has been. Named Veronica Teresa McNulty, the seventh and last child of Anne and Thomas, her life began - and what a life it would be! Veronica - known also as Vera, Nana, Mom, Very Merry Veryonica - lived 87 full and wonderful years! She died Saturday, July 12, 2014, surrounded by the love she had been sowing her whole life. Here are some of the milestones of her life: • She and her family endured the Great Depression • Her teenage years were surrounded by World War II • In her early to mid-20s, she and her sister Peggy cared for their mother, whose painful illness and passing brought a heavy lifelong burden • In 1956, at 29, she met the love of her life, John Macauley. They married that year on September 29th. • Between 1957 and 1966, a nine year span, she gave birth to 8 children including 2 sets of twins • At 38 she, John and her 8 children, all under 10 years old, moved across the Atlantic Ocean to America, to Atlanta, Georgia. The year was 1967 • Vera and John celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2006 • John’s passing in 2008 Vera was a child of Ireland, a bride of England and a citizen of the United States She was beautiful, in body and soul. She was full of joy and ALWAYS had a ready smile to greet you Her life was defined by two things, her faith and her family. Clearly and simply, her life began and ended with these….a deep and abiding faith and a love, commitment and passion for her family. Her family was everything to her and its foundation was her faith. She was a joy and her legacy will last for eternity. Her husband, John Joseph Macauley, and daughter Teresa Seitz, are with her now. She leaves behind eight children, 15 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, July 17th at 2 pm at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 4905 Roswell Rd, NE, Marietta, GA 30062.
