Annette Nash Wood

Annette Eileen Nash Wood (Brandy), 78, of Kennesaw passed away surrounded by her family, Saturday, March 18, 2017. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday at St. James Episcopal Church in Marietta with Rev. Roger Allen officiating. Interment will follow at St. James Cemetery. Brandy was born in Limerick, Ireland, youngest of eleven children. Her keen mind showed itself early in life when she was offered a scholarship to Trinity College, Dublin, although she did not attend. She lived and worked in London, England for several years before coming to Marietta where she worked in accounting at Lockheed Corp. and Mayo Chemical Co. A member of the Hibernian Benevolent Society of Atlanta for over thirty years, she joined the Irish Dancing Community through her youngest sons, starting with the Mulligan School in Marietta and was one of the founding parents of the Drake School of Irish Dance in Atlanta. She supported and encouraged the Southern Region of the Irish Dance Teachers of North America from its beginning. She travelled extensively with her family to Irish Dance competitions all over the United States and to Canada and Ireland. An enthusiastic participant of the Atlanta Festival of Trees where she organized the Irish tree for many years, she was also involved in the Atlanta Celtic Festival and the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. She was proud to have six children who went to the University of Georgia and was especially proud of her US citizenship and of having grown up Irish. Survivors include her husband, Grahame Wood; four sons, Michael Cheney and his wife, Lisa, Christopher Cheney and his wife, Tiffany, Grahame Wood and his wife, Neha, Brent Wood and his wife, Abbey; three daughters, Michelle Wood Lee and her husband, Brent, Jennifer Wood Burmeister and her husband, Jeffrey, Anne Wood Danhof and her husband, David; one brother, Sean Nash; two sisters, Philomena Elligott and Teresa Palacios; thirteen grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
