Mable Pratt Johnson

May 18, 1922 - February 6, 2022

Mable Ruth Pratt Johnson passed away on February 6, 2022. A native of Marietta, she was born on May 18, 1922, and she was a graduate of Marietta High School, class of 1939. Mable came from a big extended family. Her mother, Pearl Carlisle Pratt, had seven siblings, and her father, Bascomb Dewitt Pratt, had ten siblings most of whom gathered for annual family reunions at Best Chapel in Cartersville. She and her six sisters continued this tradition in weekly and holiday gatherings at “Granny’s” house on Maple Avenue. Mable was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church of Marietta and held many roles in the church over the years. She served on the Building Fund Committee when the church moved to its current location and held positions as secretary for the Director of Christian Education, Interim Director of Christian Education, Membership Secretary, Older Adult Coordinator, and on the Council of Ministries, Nominating Committee, and Kitchen Committee. Mable set up the Wednesday Volunteer Program, the Older Adults Travelers’ group, and helped start the church’s Youth Camp. Survivors include two sisters, Jane Scarborough and Patricia Pratt; her two children, Patricia Doughten and Steve Johnson; her two grandchildren, Dawn Greiner and Eric Johnson; and six great-grandchildren, Tyler Greiner, Michael Greiner, Mitchell Greiner, Savannah Johnson, Radie Johnson, and Rhett Johnson. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta. The family will receive friends 1-1:55 PM Saturday at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta, Contributions may be made in her honor to the First United Methodist Church, 56 Whitlock Avenue, Marietta, GA 30064.
