July 30, 1953 - May 9, 2022
Susan Reed Laubacher of Marietta, Georgia passed away surrounded by her loving family on May 9, 2022 after a lengthy battle with carcinoid cancer and Parkinson’s disease. She fought a valiant battle and dedicated her later years to spending time with family and friends, making wonderful trips full of lasting memories to Walt Disney World, Europe, and St. George Island. Susan was born on July 30, 1953. She grew up in Marietta, attended Marietta High School and then Emory at Oxford in Covington, Georgia, later graduating from Emory University. Susan’s extensive career in banking eventually brought her back to Marietta where she led the Business Office at The Georgia Ballet and later retired at Synovus Bank. While she enjoyed her career in banking and finance, she took the most pride in being a devoted mother, and later an adoring grandmother. She was an avid supporter of the arts, specifically ballet, and immersed herself in travel and nature whenever possible. She loved wiggling her toes in the sand at the beach, meticulously planning family Disney trips, watching the birds from her back porch, discussing movies and books, and listening to her carefully-curated iTunes playlists. Susan’s inspiring sense of humor and wit allowed for her positive outlook on life, something that kept her spirits high, even throughout the most challenging times. Susan is preceded in death by her father, Dr. R. Glenn Reed, Jr. of Marietta and her sister, Glenda Reed Delany of Pensacola, Florida. She is survived by her mother, Jean Stillwell Reed of Marietta; her husband of many years, Charles C. (Chuck) Laubacher; her daughters; Caroline Laubacher Simpkins of Marietta and Allison Laubacher Pearson of Carrollton; and her grandchildren, Charlotte Elaine (Charlie) Pearson and Reed Lewis Pearson. She is also survived by her sister, Cathy Reed Nelson of Big Canoe, Georgia; her nephew Ben Carpenter of McDonough, Georgia and nieces and nephews. Susan was dearly loved and respected by so many and will be sorely missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in her memory to the Grand Teton National Park Foundation.
