Barbara Violet Goodman-Wofford

Barbara Violet Goodman-Wofford, affectionately known as Bobbi or Bookman, was born on July 3, 1943 in Bronx, New York at Morrisania Hospital. Barbara was the devoted daughter of Violet Huckless Wofford and Carey Wofford. Barbara graduated from Central Commercial High School in 1961, majoring in bookkeeping and typing. On December 28, 1963, she married Donald O. Goodman and began a family, eventually relocating to Teaneck, New Jersey. Barbara worked for 32 years as a medical records clerk for the Community Center for Mental Health/Vantage Health Systems. Barbara had a green thumb, enjoying gardening and attending to her plants and flowers. She also loved to knit and relished going to doll shows and collecting porcelain dolls. Barbara loved her family, especially her three children, making every sacrifice and doing everything in her power to better their lives. After retiring, she spent time traveling, taking classes at the senior center, and spending time with her family. When Barbara was initially diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, she relocated to Georgia under the loving care and support of her family. During the progression of her disease, we saw her go through numerous challenges, both mental and physical. However, her strength, courage, and resilience were remarkable. While the disease took more and more from Barbara, it could not take the true essence of her spirit. She would always light up when her family and friends visited her, especially if you had a sweet treat in hand. She continued to smile and laugh throughout it all and, of course, tell you like it is. Barbara’s will to live was always strong and she put up a gallant fight until the very end. Barbara passed away on January 22, 2024 in Marietta, Georgia at the age of 80. She will always be in our hearts. Her parents, her brother Carey J. Wofford, and her former husband of 33 years, Donald O. Goodman, pre-deceased her. A host of family members and friends welcome her in heaven. Barbara leaves to mourn her adoring and devoted family including: Son, Donald Goodman (Milagros Goodman), Daughter, Fatima Goodman (Kalimah Jenkins), and daughter Kelli Goodman. Grandchildren: Donnell Prescott, Shannon Goodman, Mandisa Jenkins-Goodman, Zariah Jenkins- Goodman, Alivia Goodman, Selest Vega, Layla Vega, and great grandchild, Skyler Prescott. She is also survived by her sister-in laws, Thomasine Goodman and Loretta Donaldson and several cousins: Kim, Umar, Martin, Idell, Gary, Ronald, Eric, Dorothy, Ivan and many more family and friends. Rest Well Mommy, you deserve it. You were such a blessing in our lives. You will truly be missed, but I know you will be watching down on all of us. Bless you and thank you for your love.
