Charlotte Newell Samples

Charlotte Samples, 84, of Marietta, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 with full conviction that she was going to join her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 7, 2023 at 3:00pm in the Historic Marietta Chapel of Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home at 180 Church Street, Marietta. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday, April 7, 2023 from 1:00pm – 2:45pm. Charlotte was born on May 31, 1938, to Herman and Nell in Villa Rica, Georgia. She graduated from Villa Rica High School in 1956. After graduation, she married her sweetheart, Jerald Samples, in July 1956. They immediately set up housekeeping in Warner Robins, Georgia and both worked for the U.S. Air Force Base there until they moved to East Point, Georgia and started a family. After their first child was born in 1961, she became a full-time homemaker, wife, and mother. They moved to Marietta, Georgia in August 1970. Charlotte was an active member of the East Cobb Community by teaching private beginner’s piano lessons, by teaching Sunday School at Roswell Street Baptist Church, and by being a PTA co-president with her husband at Mountain View Elementary School. She was a promoter of Arts and Education. She was a full-time employee for 25 years at the Defense Contract Administration Services Region, Atlanta (DCASR). She was an active member and leader in the Marietta Chapter 1033 of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). Charlotte loved her family and friends dearly. Her life was well lived. We will all miss her smile, hugs, biscuits, and sweet tea. Charlotte was preceded in death by her father, Herman; mother, Nell; sister Shirley; sister Shelby Jean; and sister Kay. Charlotte is survived by her husband, Jerald Samples; sister-in-law Jeanette; brother-in-law, Raymond; daughter, Jill (husband: Andy); son Jerry (wife: Jenny); son Tim (wife: Andrea; grandchildren: Morgan, Aiden, and Madison); and daughter Jeana (husband: Eric; grandchildren: Victoria, Gabriel and Penny); nephew, Judd (wife: Charlie), nephew Craig (wife: Leslie), her first-cousin Hilda and best friends Jean, Linda, Helen, Judy, Kitty, Marjorie, and Betty.
