Edward William Wells

Edward (“Ed”) William Wells went to be with his Heavenly Father on January 28th, 2026. He was born on July 5, 1933, in Macon, Georgia to his loving mother Alice Bryant Wells. His father, Edward William Wells, passed away in March before his birth as the result of an automobile accident. Alice took over the business, Edwells Trick and Novelty, in Macon, raising their son as a single mom and making sure he wanted for nothing. Ed grew up in Macon and graduated from Lanier High School in 1951, after which he moved to Atlanta and attended GA Tech. He participated in the Co-Op program and ROTC, graduating with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1957, as a commissioned 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He worked for Martin-Marietta in Baltimore, MD before entering active service in the Army. He continued serving in the Army until 1959, at which time he transitioned into the Air National Guard. He began working at Robbins AirForce Base as a civilian that same year. He served the U.S. Air Force for 23 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1983. He joined Lockheed in Marietta, Georgia in 1961, simultaneously earning his MBA from Georgia State, and retired as a Specialist Engineer in 1990. He continued to work as a Contract Engineer for another nine years. He was preceeded in death by his father, Edward Wells in 1933; his mother Alice Wells in 1973; and his namesake infant grandson, Edward "Will" William Wells IV in December 1998. Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Theresa Combs Wells, his five children Edward William Wells, of Dahlonega, GA, Richard Wells [Christine] of Winter Garden, FL, Janean Wells Stone [Chris] of Marietta, GA, Karen W. Stratigos-Smith [Kevin] of Kennesaw, GA and Kathryn Fitts of Acworth, GA, his ten grandchildren Dr. Jason Wells [Lenzi], Megan Leach [Dr. Justin Leach], Katie Hallquist [Ryan], Tyler Ray [Sarah], Nicholas Stratigos [Sia], Hannah Fitts, Sophia Stratigos Sciarappa [Vincent], Sarah Fitts, Wesley Wells, and Eva Stratigos [fiancé, Justin Wheeler], and eleven great-grandchildren. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation with the family will be held at Mayes-Ward-Dobbins in Downtown Marietta on Monday, February 2nd from 12:30 to 1:30 pm, with a Celebration of Life immediately following in the chapel. Internment will occur at Georgia National Cemetery at a later date.
