Dr. Ernest Ekeneme Nweke

Professor Ernest Ekeneme Nweke, born July 19,1948, passed away Thursday April 15, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dr. Winifred C. Nweke; his four children: Jennifer Ifeoma Nweke, Jeffrey Chukwuka Nweke, Nkiruka Shelley Nweke, and Chukwuma Ernest Nweke; his same-parents siblings: His Highness, Igwe Christopher Nweke, Mrs. Grace Akhilele, Mrs. Edna Okorafor, Mrs. Adline Iwuagwu, Ms. Ngozi Nweke, & Major Gloria Ernest; and Step-Sister: Mrs. Theresa Okeke; Step-brothers, Mr. Anayo Nweke, Mr. Edozie Nweke, Mr. Obed Nweke, Mr. Udoka Nweke, Mr. David Nweke and many nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles and cousins. Throughout his life, Ernest knew and valued the importance of education. As a college professor, he taught at various Universities, including University of Florida, Gainesville, Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Alabama and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He paid the gift of education forward by helping to fund many aspiring students’ school fees and encouraging them to attain advanced degrees. His friends and family will remember his big personality and his love for people and community, especially for “the least of these” for whom he always advocated. Ernest was so much to so many. He was a mechanical and aerospace engineer, an educator, storyteller, an adviser, an adamant debater, community builder, music lover, and devoted Christian. Some have lost a mentor and teacher, others a sparring debate partner and foil; but we have all lost a man who pushed us to reach higher and strive for excellence in everything we do.
