Fred Marshall Mowrey

Fred M. Mowrey, 96, a long-time resident of Marietta, passed away on Friday, July 03, 2015, in Baton Rouge, LA. He was born April 22, 1919, in Cleveland, TN. Fred graduated from Bradley County High School in Cleveland, TN, in 1937 and then attended and graduated from the Edmondson School of Business while working for the McKesson-Duff Drug Company. On June 03, 1939 he married Margaret June Blaylock of Chattanooga, TN. Fred served in the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer, stationed at Camp Perry in Williamsburg, VA, during World War II. After being discharged from the Navy he worked for The Burrows Corporation in Birmingham, AL and Max Cuba and Co. CPA’s in Atlanta. He earned a degree in Business Administration (with honor) from the Atlanta Division of the University of Georgia (now known as Georgia State University) in 1952 and completed his CPA certification in 1953. Fred worked for Lockheed-Georgia Company as the Tax Administrator in addition to having his own accounting and tax services business, Fred M. Mowrey and Associates, P.C. He was a long-time loyal member of Marietta First Baptist Church and the community service club, Civitans (both the Eight O’Clock and Marietta clubs). He and his wife, June, loved to travel and over their life-time together visited all 50 states, 10 provinces of Canada and many European countries. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Luther and Sifrona (Fronie) Marshall Mowrey, brother and sister-in-law, Jess and Jewell Mowrey of Chattanooga, sisters and brothers-in-law, Elsie and Ted Triplett of Cleveland, TN, and Gertrude and OB Hayes of Cleveland, TN and his beloved wife of 64 years, Margaret June Blaylock Mowrey. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel Beverly and Mary Gravois Mowrey of Baton Rouge, LA and Samuel Luther and Deborah Derring Mowrey of Kingwood, TX and daughter and son-in-law, Stella Kittrell Mowrey and Robert Sudderth of Alcoa, TN, as well as grandchildren Nancy Lynn Mowrey Gibbs and husband, Justin Gibbs of Ewa Beach, HI, Ian Wesley Sudderth of New York City, Austin Marshall Mowrey of New Orleans, Margaret Kellett Sudderth of Atlanta/Cincinnati, Elizabeth Camille Mowrey of Kingwood, TX, great-grandchildren Brandon, Hannah, Claire and Conner Gibbs of Ewa Beach, HI and numerous nieces and nephews of both the Mowrey and Blaylock families. Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 16 at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta.
