Fredrick Wayne Ball Sr.

Fredrick Wayne Ball, Sr. was born September 4 th 1937, in Moultrie, Georgia. He was the son of the late City Councilman and Mayor Pro-Tempore H. Wesley Ball and the late Catherine Alexander Ball of Moultrie. He grew up as the fourth of five siblings from this union. Naturally athletic and outgoing in his youth, as a teen he worked for his father at the Colquitt Hotel and attended Moultrie High School for Negro Youth, where he starred on the football team and graduated in 1955. Shortly thereafter, he joined the United States Navy and served as sonarman 2 nd class aboard the USS Hollister for two years, receiving his honorable discharge in 1957. In 1960, he joined the US Postal Service where he worked for 31 years, climbing the promotional ladder until finishing as a Superintendent of Mail Operations before retiring in 1991. He married Juanita Cook of Moultrie, Georgia in 1959. Their marriage lasted 64 years until his passing. As a longtime resident of Atlanta, particularly intown East Lake and suburban East Point, Fredrick Ball, Sr. would be remembered as outgoing and engaging; an avid golfer, a passionate Atlanta sports fan, yet serious about his business and personal affairs. He was especially known for his punctuality at events, and having a prodigious memory of facts, figures, faces, names, places, and music. He was a member of Berean Bible Baptist Church, where he and Mom came to know the Lord and were saved. There, he humbly served the church as a deacon and senior member of Berean’s Transitional Leadership Advisory Council in its search for its current and longtime pastor Rev. Roger W.F. Skepple. Fredrick Sr. (“Freddie” as he was known by close friends) enjoyed his retirement playing golf, attending church, hosting missionaries and visitors, and attending grandparents events. He resided alongside his wife in the Grant Valley Estates neighborhood of East Point for 48 years. He leaves behind a host of friends, acquaintances, and co-workers who all remember, “Mr. Ball”. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dr. Wesley James Ball formerly of Savannah, Georgia, his sister Marjorie Walker Ball formerly of Detroit, Michigan, and his brother Ronald Anthony Ball formerly of Chicago, Illinois. His surviving brother, Alfred Lynn Ball, C.P.A., resides in Somerset New Jersey. His wife Juanita survives him, along with children Victor Wayne Ball (Louise) of Largo, Florida; Fredrick Wayne Ball, Jr. (Deloris) of Green Cove Springs, Florida; Roger Lynn Ball (Angelica) of Marietta, Georgia; Karen Michelle Ball of Union City, Georgia; and Franklin Anthony Ball (Rhonda) of Evans, Georgia. All remained devoted to the end to his health, to his welfare, and to his memory. He leaves behind six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Dad’s favorite Bible verse comes from Micah 6:8: “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.”
