Horace G. Killebrew, Jr., 89, of Marietta passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Chapel at First Baptist Church in Marietta with Dr. Bill Ross officiating. Interment will take place at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park. Horace was born and raised in Baker County, Georgia. He served in the Navy as a Seaman First Class during World War II and graduated from Georgia Tech in 1949 as a Civil Engineer. As a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Marietta, he was a Life Deacon, member of the Men’s Sunday School Class and sang in the choir; through Noonday Baptist Association he worked with Builders for Christ and Disaster Relief activities; he was also a longtime member of the Georgia Festival Chorus. He retired from IBM, and after his retirement enjoyed a number of hobbies. He loved woodworking and enjoyed taking on challenging projects; he completed several projects for the church, including a bridal bench and, with a group of friends, built the cabinet for the lighting and sound mixer console. He built several beautiful pieces of furniture and loved completing furniture repairs for friends. He loved camping with his family, great southern food and enjoyed telling good jokes. He had a lifelong love of singing and enjoyed musical concerts. Most of all he enjoyed time with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband and father, and could always be counted on to be there when he was needed. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Bothwick Killebrew of Marietta; daughter, Linda Jeanne Lopez of Marietta; sons, Glenn Edward Killebrew (Valorie) of Hiram, Joel Eric Killebrew (Gini) of Dallas; sisters, Dorothy Heggie (Hunter) of Signal Mountain, TN, Roberta Hunt (T.C.) of Blakely, Clarene Jones (Lewis) of Bainbridge; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Sandra Killebrew of Roswell, Duane Walker, sister-in-law of Dothan, AL, sister-in-law, Edythe Robinson; brother-in-law, Forrest Warthman; brother-in-law, Deane Warthman of Hillsdale, MI; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Paul Alan Killebrew. Contributions may be made to the Building Fund or Music Ministry of First Baptist Church of Marietta, 148 Church Street, Marietta, GA 30060.
