Horace “Wayne” McDonald, 87, of Kennesaw, GA, formerly, Adairsville, GA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 6, 2022 in Woodstock, GA. A Funeral Service will be held in his honor on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Macland Chapel with Rev. Johnny Foster officiating. He will be laid to rest at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the service. Family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Wayne’s name to Alzheimer's Foundation of America at alzfdn.org . Wayne is survived by his grandsons, Matt Fleming & wife Michele of Marietta, GA, Brad Fleming & wife April of Woodstock, GA, and Jason McDonald & wife Jessica of Chesterfield, VA; granddaughter, Shannon Bush & husband Larry of Chesterfield, VA; 9 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lola “Janice” McDonald; daughters, Jana McDonald Fleming & Tammy McDonald Davis; son, David McDonald; and brothers, Jimmy McDonald & Dennis McDonald. Horace “Wayne” McDonald was born Saturday, December 29, 1934, in Adairsville, GA to Horace & Clara McDonald. He married the love of his life Janice Smith McDonald on May 12, 1953 and they had 68 wonderful years together. Wayne obtained his Master’s degree in Divinity from Mercer University. He was the pastor at Harlem Baptist Church and then went on to pastor at Lost Mountain Baptist Church for 3 years. As much as Wayne loved spreading God’s word, he decided to leave the church and began working for the railroad and retired after 20 years of service. Wayne enjoyed making jewelry, horseback riding, as well as woodworking and travel, and he was able to combine those two hobbies when he built his 29-foot fishing troller boat that he lovingly called the “Ark”. Wayne would then go on to buy a 40 foot fishing troller that he would use to take his grandchildren on trips to the Florida Keys, Bahama’s, and along the intercoastal waterways. He and Janice loved the adventures they would go on with their grandchildren. Wayne was an old soul; he would always measure up a situation before responding to it. He always put great thought into how to make the best out of any situation. Wayne was the definition of a family man. He always put his family first and worked hard to make sure they were taken care of. He was a kind loving man and his presence will be greatly missed. A visitation will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 between the hours of 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Macland Chapel in Powder Springs, GA.
