Howard Jesse Simpson III

The Gentle Giant...Howard (Sonny) Simpson III, oldest son of Howard J Simpson II and Dorothy Lee Neal Simpson, was welcomed on December 28, 2023 into the presence of God our Father based upon his confession of faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Born December 14, 1942, Howard was a longtime resident of Marietta, GA; known for his prowess on the football field first at Marietta High School then Auburn University and finally professional teams Minnesota Vikings/Buffalo Bills, he was best known among his friends as a family man with a gentle spirit who could be trusted to speak the truth and always meet his commitments. His 50+year professional life included designing, building and remodeling residential properties throughout the metro Atlanta area. His work was so treasured that paid advertising was not required...word of mouth from clients led to his success in creating spaces people love to call home. Married for 53 years to the former Carole Ann Cooper of Arcadia, CA, his greatest accomplishment was as patriarch of a large extended family deeply committed to living lives of integrity and love for each other. Matthew 7:20 " by their fruit you will recognize them" is a picture-perfect analogy of the life he lived leading his children by example in creating families devoted to each other and to our Lord Jesus Christ. Howard was a long-time member of Marietta First Baptist Church where both he and Carole were faithful members of the Gary Bonds Sunday School Class for over 50 years. In addition to Carole, Howard is survived by three children (spouses) Jess Simpson (Tricia), Barbara Knox (Jack) and Lindy Jones (Cooper); nine grandchildren Luke (Dana), Cooper, Jake and Emma Simpson, John Allen (Emma), Jared and Merritt Knox, and Andrew and Bella Jones; brothers Randy (Vicki) Simpson, Scott Simpson and Keith Stadelbacher. A celebration of life is scheduled at Marietta First Baptist Church on January 3, 2024 at 12 Noon. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to Noon before the service in the church parlor downstairs. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Memory of Howard Simpson to the Good Samaritan Health Center of Cobb County or the First Baptist Church of Marietta. Psalms 73:23-26
