Huey L. Hammond

Huey L. Hammond passed away on Sunday, July 24, following complications of Parkinson’s disease. “Gramps” lived his life with great courage, professional integrity, service, love, and a delightful sense of humor. Family visitation will be Tuesday, July 26th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and the funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Marietta on Wednesday, July 27th at 11:00 a.m. Huey, 76, was born in Buchanan, Georgia but moved to Marietta in 1943, where his parents, Elizabeth Neary Hammond and Willie Hammond worked for Bell Bomber Plant. He graduated in 1952 from Marietta High School and Georgia State University in 1958 with a degree in accounting. Following graduation, he was employed as Internal Auditor for Rich’s Department Store. He was then employed at General Motors in Doraville for 23 years as Senior Accountant. Mr. Hammond founded Hammond Accounting service in East Marietta in 1987, which he headed for 12 years. He was past president of the North Georgia Chapter of Georgia Association of Private Accountants (GAPA), and an Enrolled Agent for the IRS. In addition, he also served as General Manager of Gaines Pressley Hair Stylists, Inc. Mr. Hammond was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church since the beginning in 1973. He was a charter member for 57 years, of the 3rd and 4th degrees of the Knights of Columbus Councils at both St. Joseph and Holy Family churches in Marietta, and was honored with life membership in 2004. Mr. Hammond is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Pressley Hammond; daughters & sons-in-law are Beth & Robert Gnuse of New Orleans, LA; Susan & Alan Stensland of Kennesaw; Grace & Alex Tymchuk of Acworth. His nine grandchildren are Becky Gnuse Chivleatto, Jake & Adam Gnuse, Ben, Daniel and Adam Stensland, and Matthew, Ashley, and Megan Tymchuk. Grandchildren by marriage are Chris Chivleatto and Annie Davis Stensland. In addition, he is survived by brothers, Jimmy Hammond & Bill Hammond of St. Petersburg, FL, nieces & nephews.
