Janis Rae (Earing) Jernigan RESCHEDULED

Due to predicted inclement weather, the service for Jan has been rescheduled for Saturday, January 25th at 2:00 P.M. at Macland Community Church. Janis Rae (Earing) Jernigan passed to glory on December 22, 2024, at the age of 86. A finer mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister, or wife you will never find. Jan was born in Highland Park, Michigan on July 30, 1938, the daughter of Raymond and Winnifred Earing. Jan married Gene Jernigan in June of 1959 and raised her family in Smyrna, GA, except for 2 years in Chester, VA following Gene’s career. Jan was a graduate of North Fulton High School and the Grady School of Nursing, where she became licensed as a Registered Nurse. She began her career working part time at Dr. Parnell’s office in Oakdale, GA. After staying home for a season to raise her three boys, she began her 30-year career at Cobb General Hospital. Her last position there was Employee Health Nurse. In the years after her retirement, Jan enjoyed traveling, and being with her family, especially her grandchildren and all their activities from band and play performances to sports. Jan was also an avid cross stitcher. She also loved singing in the choir at church and her mission trips to Kenya. She is survived by her husband of 65 years Gene Jernigan, her sons Jeff (Jill) Jernigan of Powder Springs, GA; Rob (Robyn) Jernigan of McMinnville, TN; Doug (Nikki) Jernigan of Leesburg, GA: six grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and sister Jere Bowden of Athens, GA; and brother Micheal Earing of Lawrenceville GA. We will miss so much about her—from her warm hugs to the gatherings around the campfire at Montreat NC, to the joy of decorating Christmas cookies together. But we'll have time to talk about all that when we gather on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Macland Community Church located at 3615 Macland Road in Powder Springs, Georgia. We'll have a Memorial Service at 2:00 PM. It will be a celebration of her life. It will be exactly what Jan wanted. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Matthew 25:40 Car Care Ministry or Montreat Campground, you will need to put "Montreat Campground" in Comments box. We will honor Jan by giving to the causes which mattered most to her.
