Jeanne Beard

Jeanne E. Beard, 79 of Powder Springs died Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at home after a long illness. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 5, 2008 at McEachern Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Jim Higgins, Rev. Jerry McCurdy, Rev. Dr. Jim Lowery officiating. Burial will be at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Marietta, Georgia. A native of Funkstown, Maryland, Mrs. Beard had lived in Cobb County since 1963 when she moved to Georgia with her late husband, Robert “Bob” Beard, an engineer at Lockheed. She relished her chosen career as Bob’s devoted wife of 50 years and loving mother of four children, grandmother of three and a great grandmother of two. However, over the years she did work outside the home with Dunaway Drug Store, the March of Dimes and as a substitute teacher for Cobb County Schools. Mrs. Beard loved to travel, play cards, make crafts and was always willing to try a new adventure. She was an active member of McEachern Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a longtime member of The Adult Fellowship Class, the JOY Seniors group and a former choir member. Survivors include her daughter, Kathy J. Buick & husband John of Summerfield, FL; two sons, “Rick” Beard & wife, Gail of Marietta; Robert “Rob” Beard of Powder Springs; three sisters, Joann Brewer & husband, Reid of Funkstown, Maryland; Donna Brown of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Elaine Bowers of Hagerstown, Maryland; brother, Dick Kershner & wife, Jean of Sacramento, CA; daughter-in-law, Karen Beard of Powder Springs; three grandchildren, Kim Montcalm, Ben Beard both of Dallas; Beth Fowler of Covington; two great grandchildren, Donovan Fouty and Carson Beard. Mrs. Beard was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Beard; son, Rodney L. “Rod” Beard and a granddaughter, Jennifer A. Beard. Family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, Georgia.
