Joseph Allen "Butch" Lindsey

Joseph Allen Lindsey, affectionately known by family & friends as Butch, passed peacefully after 69 years of life on August 10, 2023. He was born in New Orleans, LA to loving parents, Samuel & Betty Lindsey. He grew up in Bayview, Alabama until the age of 14 when he and his family moved to Marietta, Ga. After graduating from Wheeler High School in 1973, he pursued 4 years of electrical school and then went on to commit 50 years to working as an electrician with IBEW Local 613. Passionate about helping others, he served as an EMT with Cobb County Rescue, Metro Ambulance, and as a Cobb County Deputy Sheriff from 1974 to the late 1980s. Butch was a kind, thoughtful soul who never met a stranger. He was selfless, always the first to offer help to others, and would freely give anyone the shirt off his back. Butch married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Head (Lindsey) in 1973, and they remained close friends until his death. They welcomed their first child, daughter April, in 1976 and a son, Jeremy, two years later in 1978. Aside from his commitment to his work and his passion to help the community, he was a devoted son, loving brother to his sister, Carol Lindsey, an amazing father, and a wonderful grandfather. He spent much of his quality time helping his daughter with lawn care, household projects, and caring for her many fur babies, all of which brought him great joy. He also enjoyed helping his son around “the farm,” jumping in on big land projects and tinkering in the barn even if it was just to spend time with his son. He enjoyed hanging out in the kitchen with his daughter in-law Rachel and he appreciated being able to spend time with his sister, Carol and “sister” Debby, whether it was a Sunday lunch or little projects around the house. He looked up to her and admired her smarts and determination in life. One of his proudest titles was PawPaw. He loved time with his four grandchildren, Jacob Allen (20), Dylan Matthew (17), Samuel John (14) and Summer Grace (12). After his recent retirement he was able to join Jacob for many lunches and Summer for her school performances. He also loved watching videos of Dylan’s fishing tournaments and Sam’s dirt biking adventures. After a short battle with pancreatic cancer, he left peacefully surrounded by his friends and family. He left an indelible mark on this world and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
