Lillie "Morine" Brown

Lillie “Morine” Brown, age 96, of Marietta, passed away on January 1, 2026. Morine was born in Murphy, NC, to Porter and Lena Marcus and was raised in Dalton, GA. The fourth of eleven children, she grew up during the height of the Great Depression, in a home marked by financial hardship but strengthened by deep family bonds and the example of hardworking, devoted parents. At the age of 20, she was diagnosed with tuberculosis and spent more than two years recovering at the Georgia State Battey Hospital in Rome, GA. It was there that she met her future husband, Hugh, who was also a patient. After their recovery and marriage, the couple settled in Kennesaw, where they lovingly raised two daughters. Morine dedicated her life to her family and was a devoted mother whose quiet strength and selflessness shaped her daughters’ lives in lasting ways. Despite facing challenges throughout her life, Morine was defined by humor, integrity, resilience, and steadfast devotion to her family. She was cherished for her quick wit and lighthearted spirit—qualities she maintained even in her later years while living with Alzheimer’s disease. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Hugh Lee Brown; her infant daughter, Diane Brown; her sisters Selma Sharp, Gertrude Mantooth, and Betsy Kinsey; and her brothers Carl, Eugene, Herman, and Johnny Marcus. She is survived by her daughters, Laura Reaves (Marietta) and Cathy Kinsey (Lafayette, GA); three grandsons; three great‑grandchildren; her sister, Katherine Kinsey; and her brothers, Porter Marcus Jr. and Ronnie Marcus. Morine will be remembered for the unwavering love she showed her family and the joy she brought into every life she touched. Her gentle humor, steady strength, and open‑hearted kindness created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and compassion—a legacy that continues to guide and comfort those who loved her most. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the stories shared, the values she instilled, and the countless moments of love she gave so freely. Her memory will forever remain a blessing. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 5, at Mayes Ward Dobbins Historic Marietta Chapel, with visitation from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Floral tributes are also gratefully welcomed.
