Linda E. Posey

Linda English Posey of Marietta, GA, 73, died Wednesday, December 25, 2013. Linda was born on March 10, 1940 in Murphy, NC to Ruth and Everett English. She graduated from Murphy High School in 1958 and married Lawrence E. (Larry) Posey, also of Murphy, on June 1 of that year. She attended Western Carolina University and throughout the years worked as a technical librarian; as a manager at Penguin Publishing Company; at a recruiting company; and in a kidney dialysis unit. In 1968, Linda and Larry moved to Marietta, GA and as a member of the Junior Women’s Club Linda was a leader in the movement to secure state support for government funding of kindergarten programs. Linda also began working in commercial property development, obtained a brokers’ license, and remained in the real estate field until her retirement. Linda’s greatest loves included family get-togethers, cooking, art, home decorating, and baseball. In recent years, she enjoyed activities with family and friends at the Wesley Chapel UMC. She especially enjoyed attending the sports, church, and school activities of her two grandchildren. Linda is survived by her husband, Lawrence Posey; a son, Dr. Drew Posey, his wife, Kristen, and daughters, Katherine and Ashley; a brother, Kendall English; two sisters, Peggy Withrow and Janet Johnson; a niece, Paige Sherrill; 5 nephews, Todd Gibson, Jeff English, John English, Ryan Johnson, and Cory Johnson; 6 grandnieces; an aunt, Clara Mae Ellis; and numerous other family and friends. The family will greet relatives and friends on Sat., Dec. 28 from 4– 6 p.m. at Mayes Ward-Dobbins funeral home in Marietta. There will be a memorial service at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Marietta on Sun., Dec. 29 at 2:00 p.m. In addition, there will be another memorial service in Murphy, NC at Ivie Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Sat., Jan. 4.
