Loraine Burch Henderson

Loraine Burch Henderson, age 69, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026. Born on April 27, 1956 in Fayetteville, Georgia, Loraine was the daughter of James Wilbur Burch and Annelle Nipper Burch. After graduating from Fayette County High School, she attended Clayton Junior College and Georgia State University, earning a marketing degree in 1977. Married in 1982 to Michael Henderson, she and Mike resided in Marietta and were parents to two children, Jim and Anna. Loving and serving primarily as a wife and a mother, Loraine also worked for a time at BellSouth and after her children were a bit older, as a beloved teacher for many years in the preschool department at First United Methodist Church of Marietta. Delighting primarily in her family, Loraine cherished being with them outdoors and quiet times, experiencing the beauties of St. Simons Island, Georgia while taking long walks on its beaches or peacefully sitting on the pier. Comparable pleasures in Telluride, Colorado also brought her much joy, as did her walks in Cheatham Hill Park in Marietta. Loraine’s big heart transcended family, children, and friends and was manifested in her love for several dogs through the years. Many of these were rescued from Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue and were beloved by her Particularly during these last three years, Loraine experienced increasing physical challenges with a failing heart. During this time, she faced her difficulties with an inspiring attitude and a can-do spirit. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the doctors and nurses at Emory University Hospital for the exceptional care provided to her and her family on the journey home. Loraine is survived by her husband of 43 years, Mike Henderson, her two children (and their spouses) Jim Henderson (Elizabeth) of Marietta, GA and Anna Henderson Wilson (Ted) of Telluride, CO, her step-grandson Gage Wilson of Telluride, CO, her brother Sam Burch (Susan) of Fayetteville, GA, her sister-in-law Lee Henderson Schuster (Dave) of Williamsburg, VA, her nieces and nephews, and her beloved dogs, Davis and Ellie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Annelle Burch. A small service for family will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 10, at First United Methodist Church of Marietta. A public visitation reception will follow at Marietta Country Club from 4:00-6:00 PM. Floral tributes are gratefully welcomed, or memorial donations may be made to Marietta First United Methodist Church’s preschool department, and Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue.
