Margie Houston

Margie Houston died June 14, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Noonday Baptist Church, with remains in state from 1 to 2 PM. Rev. Billy Moss and Rev. Henry Couser will officiate. Burial will be in Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery. Margie was born May 25, 1942, the 5th daughter, to Jace & Katie Blankenship, in Jackson, Georgia. After growing up through a beautiful childhood in Jackson, reaching early adulthood, Margie ventured to southern California, where for a number of years, she was successful in business. However, as fate would have it, her home state of Georgia kept calling. Margie returned to the Marietta area, where she had relatives living; met, fell in love with, and married Jack Houston. Again, a successful business woman, who, with her husband, owned and operated for the past 26 years Complete Wrecker Service, Inc. of Marietta. While doing so, she made countless friends, touching the lives of many in several ways. Margie loved to travel, taking several sea cruises with her friends, as well as her beloved son, David. Margie loved to travel with her grandchildren to her summer home in Florida; and travelled afar with her husband many times. She enjoyed owning and showing their many beautiful classic cars. Her home and office are adorned with the many trophies amassed from the competitions they entered. She was a darling daughter; a wonderful sister; a very wonderful loving wife; a great mother, who loved her children dearly; and she was a very loving grandmother. Margie was preceded in death by her mother, Nellie Kate Brooks Blankenship; her father, Jace Hudson Blankenship; sisters, Wyolene Ophelia Cotton, Bessie Kate Blankenship, and JoAnn Godby; brother, Jace Hudson Blankenship, Jr.; and her beloved granddaughter, Victoria Danielle Houston. Margie is survived by her husband of 26 years, Raymond (Jack) Houston, of Marietta; her son, Brian (David) Houston, and his wife, Angelia; her daughter, Amy Pirtle, and her husband, Russell, all of Marietta; sisters, Fairy Jane Phillips, of High Falls, Georgia; Mary Esther Watts, and husband Wayne, of Griffin; Anna (Cathy) Allen, and husband Charlie, of Covington; brothers, Wyman Blankenship, of Griffin; Jimmy Blankenship, and wife, Joanne, of Jackson; William (Danny) Blankenship, of Kennesaw; grandchildren, Jacklyn Marie Houston, Caitlyn Elisabeth Houston, both of Marietta; Miranda Dawn Tyler, Harley Allen Tyler, both of Marietta; Suzanna Gabrielle Pirtle, Rileigh McKenna Pirtle, Stephen Austin Hardwick, and Brandon Hunter Dalton, all of Marietta; several nieces, nephews; and her two true life friends, Sandra Jones, of Jackson; and Virginia Vittur, of Marietta. Margie will be sorely missed by those who loved her so dearly. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 PM, and from 6 to 8 PM Monday at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory.
