Norman Brown

Norman Brown, 86, of Marietta left this earth to join his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 27, 2009. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost sixty-five years, Gladys Voyles Brown; three devoted grandchildren, Bridget Davis, Eileen Johnson, and Phillip Arnold; and four great-grandchildren. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Stella and James Arthur Brown; nine siblings, Earl, Alvis, Alvin, Armasia, Lela, Lula, Lorene, J.B., and Hugh; and survived by one brother Rex; all originally from Sand Mountain, Alabama. Norman proudly served our country in the Army during World War II and later worked as a service manager for Mark Singleton Buick. After “retiring” he became the facilities manager at St. Paul UMC and then worked part time as a bailiff at Superior Court Building in Marietta. They warmly welcomed friends, neighbors, and family into their home on Moon Street that raised grandchildren and built wonderful and happy memories for all. Norman was a deacon at Roselane Baptist Church, now GracePointe, in Marietta, where he and his wife, Gladys, was very active members for over 40 years. They faithfully ran the Benevolence Committee together working hard to get up food for grieving families, sometimes delivering to their homes and other times serving it at church. Norman cooked in the kitchen of the Fellowship Hall year after year for Brotherhood Breakfasts, Pancake Breakfasts & Hot Dog dinners for charities, and other parish events. They doted on their grandchildren and great grandchildren who visited them often. These children are the passion of their lives, a Godsend to them in their later years, and will continue to care for Norman’s wife Gladys upon his passing. The family will receive friends Wednesday morning, December 30, from 10:00 to 11:00 with a Funeral Service following in the Chapel at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta, who is handling all funeral arrangements. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, 1752 Macland Road, Marietta.
