Patricia Pope Chilton

Patricia Pope Chilton, 95, of Marietta, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. Born November 1, 1929, in Acworth, Georgia, she was the daughter of George Wesley Pope and Julia McLain Pope. A graduate of Acworth High School class of 1946, she attended Wesleyan College as a history major. She acquired her legendary hostessIng skills while working at the dining hall serving faculty at the President’s table. While attending a dance at Wesleyan, she met Warren “Red” Chilton of Marietta, Georgia, and they continued as renowned dance partners throughout their 59-year marriage. After settling in Marietta, Patricia taught school at Acworth High School, North Cobb High School, Osborn High School and Westside Elementary School, maintaining close friendships with many of her former students. Active at the Marietta First United Methodist Church, she faithfully taught the Women’s Philathea Sunday School Class for many years. Pat was an enthusiastic volunteer serving countless hours with many organizations including the Marietta Junior League, Creswell School, Georgia Ballet, Steinway Society, KSU Fine Arts, Georgia Symphony, and the Wellstar Hospice Board. Pat was an avid ALTA tennis player along with Red, an interest later shared by grandson Warren McClure. Pat and Red had a great love for traveling, gardening and entertaining. They loved sharing their home and beautiful garden as the setting for many parties and celebrations, including their annual Eggnog Party and Spring Tree Party. After Red’s death in 2009, Pat continued to carry on the tradition, hosting garden parties into her 90’s. She is survived by her children; Warren Chilton, Julianne McClure (Boozer), Claire Brogdon (Sam), Laurie Phillips (Roger) and her grandchildren; Warren McClure, Julia McCloud (Grant) and McLain Brogdon. A memorial service will held 4:00 PM Tuesday June 24, 2025 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta, GA. Pat’s family will receive friends 3-4:00 pm at the funeral home.
