Paul Joseph Guzman

Paul Joseph Guzman, 41, of Marietta GA, passed away Sunday November 27, 2016 in Marietta GA from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Paul made his grand entry into this world on July 21, 1975 in Greeley, CO to JoAnn Rocha and Pablo Guzman. He was loved, and he fiercely loved back every day. He had a happy childhood growing up in Fort Morgan CO playing baseball, causing mischief, and following his big brother around. After graduating from Fort Morgan High School in 1993, Paul followed in the footsteps of his grandfather and father and enlisted in the United States Army. Paul proudly served his country as a Bradley tank gunner and spent a year in Korea forging strong memories and lifelong friendships. After his honorable discharge from the Army in 1997, Paul returned to the Brush, CO area where he worked and subsequently met and married the love of his life Burgundy Vestal on Feb 22, 2000 forming a supporting and strong union where every joy and every crisis was faced together. True to his family man nature, Paul furthered his education receiving an Associate of Applied Science in Computer Network Engineering in 2006 and a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Security in 2007 from Westwood College in Denver, CO all while working full time, raising a family, and coaching his son’s little league baseball team. Paul was a well-known and respected member of the Brush, CO community where he coached little league baseball, refereed high school football games, and could be found with his family running in the local 5K run/walks supporting those causes. Paul’s education and experience brought forth the opportunity to move to Georgia and work for Birch Communications in 2011 as Director of IT Infrastructure, where he was considered a respected and valued asset of the company as well as a good friend to many of his co-workers. Above all else, Paul’s greatest joy was spending time with his wife and family always making time for every school function and activity his children were involved in. He was the epitome of a loving husband and devoted father. Paul also enjoyed hiking and kayaking with his family, snowboarding with his wife, running in 5K races, competing in half marathons, and cherished the times spent with his 11 other racing mates during the 200 mile Wild West Relays which starts on the plains and winds through Red Feather Lakes to Woods Landing, Wyoming, Routt and Roosevelt National Forest, over the Continental Divide, and finishes in Steamboat Springs, CO. Paul was quick to find any opportunity to spend time with his father, brother, friends and family hunting, golfing, clay pigeon shooting, a sporting event or any other excuse to have fun and laugh. As his neighbors can probably attest, Paul was an avid Denver Broncos fan and could be heard cheering on the Broncos on game day. Using skills learned from his father-in-law, Paul was just finishing remodeling their home. And after he made sure all his other works were done and everybody was taken care of, Paul would spend time with his big brother, brother by choice, oldest daughter, and friends running raids and ‘blasting’ on his most treasured possession, his Xbox, while enjoying a ‘beast juice’ (Mountain Dew), a Reese’s peanut butter cup, and Takis chips. Paul had a short but happy, fun filled life loved so much by so many people. He is survived by his wife Burgundy, daughters Tatum and Anissa of Marietta GA son Cross of Ft. Morgan CO, mother JoAnn (Manuel) Rocha of Bonaire GA; father Pablo (Kim) Guzman of Windsor CO; grandmother Margaret Guzman of Ft. Collins CO; brother John (Sandy) Guzman of Kathleen GA; sister Jamie Mares of Friona TX; sister Stephanie Ressler of Scottsdale AZ; sister Nicole(Brian) Stoudt of Ft Collins, CO; sister Ashley Rocha of Northern CO; nieces Jordyn, Maris, Samantha, Shelby, Taylor, Alliyah; nephew Jordan and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Paul was preceded in death by his grandparents Eldon and Vera Green, John H. Guzman and Aunt Jeri L Hodge. Memorial services will be Dec 3, 2016 at 3pm at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home, 180 Church St, Marietta GA with a reception to celebrate Paul’s life to follow the service. The family is sincerely requesting friends provide any stories of Paul they have and/or how Paul made a difference in their lives, so that his teenage children have extra memories of their father.
