Phillip Roland Wright

Phillip Roland Wright, 102, passed away on October 14th, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Lois T. Wright, parents Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Wright of Sebree, KY and one brother, William E. Wright of Sebree, KY. Mr. Wright served in the US Army Air Corp (484th Air Sv Gp) during World War II from 1942-1946 where he was stationed in England, France and Germany. After his discharge from the Army in 1946 he served in the US Marine Corp Reserves. He was raised on a farm in Kentucky and always had a love for nature and growing things. That love carried over into his adult years; he grew a large garden every year and always shared his crops with family, friends and those in need. He volunteered in Chaplain’s Department at Kennestone Hospital for over 20 years and for many years he taught the oldest men’s Sunday School class at Eastside Baptist Church where he had been a member since the mid-1980s. In his latter years he attended Sunday School at Roswell Street Baptist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He most recently was a resident at Daybreak Village in Kennesaw for the past 5 years. Mr. Wright is survived by his daughter Deborah Gorenflo and her husband Terrell Gorenflo, son John Wright and his wife Melodie Wright and his siblings Bettye Powell, Tony Wright and Linda Williams, his grandchildren; Allyson Chitwood (husband Adam Chitwood), Alicia Boyle (husband Brett Boyle), Jared Wright (wife Lindsey Wright), Gretchen Trevaskis (husband Ben Travaskis), Stephanie Gorenflo, his great-grandchildren; Alexa Woody, Bretton Chitwood, Savannah Sharpe, Emma Boyle, Abigail Wright, Emily Wright, Madelyn Wright, Ava Trevaskis, Lola Trevaskis, Ben Fox, and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 18th, at 3PM at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Historic Chapel (770-428-1511) in Marietta, Georgia. The family will receive guests the night prior, Tuesday, October 17th from 6pm to 8pm. A burial will be held at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
