Robert Hull Northcutt, Jr.

Robert Hull Northcutt, Jr., 76, of Jasper died Friday, October 15, 2010. Services will be held 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta. Robert Northcutt was born at the old Marietta Hospital on Cherokee Street, the first son of native Marietta residents, Polly Webb Northcutt and Robert H. Northcutt, Sr. While living in Marietta Mr. Northcutt and his wife were active in the First Presbyterian Church. He served as deacon and head of the Sunday Schools. He and his wife were instrumental in starting the First Presbyterian day care school. He attended Marietta schools K through 12. While in high school; he served as editor of the school paper, The Pitchfork, which won national awards in New York, where he met Harry Truman who was a featured speaker at the awards ceremony. He attended Emory University and there received a Bachelor of Arts and earned Lieut. bars in the Air Force. While serving in the Air Force he lived with his wife in Lubbock, TX, and Greenville, MS, attended pilot training and officer candidate school, and ultimately retired to the Reserves. After the Air Force he went back to school for a masters in accounting at Georgia State University and sat for the CPA exam in 1965. He achieved the highest score in the history of Georgia at the time, and in recognition was honored with the Eligah Sells Watts Award of Excellence for national achievement. On July 8, 1963, Mr. Northcutt went to work for the Lockheed Georgia Company in budget and forecast. After seven years, he was transferred to the California corporate office in Burbank. CA,as Department Head of Budget and Forecast. He left that position to become Director of Finance for the California Company. From there he was promoted to Vice President and Controller of the Lockheed Corporation in 1978, where he served for 15 years until retirement in 1992. In addition to his responsibilities at Lockheed, Mr. Northcutt served on the Board of Directors of the Lockheed Federal Credit Union (approximately $1 billion in assets) for 20 years and was its Chairman before resigning to accept an appointment to the Financial Accounting and Standards Board (FASB) in Norwalk. CT, where he served for 5 years. Robert was a dedicated father of 3 children, including Louise Winters Northcutt of Atlanta and her daughter Amanda Louise Collado of Washington, DC; Mary Elizabeth Northcutt (deceased) and Paul Cardinal of Dallas, GA, and their sons Michael Anthony, John Paul, and Larry Robert Cardinal; and Robert H. Northcutt, III and Val Rusk Northcutt of Atlanta and their children Rae Victoria and Noah Mitchell. Other family members include brothers Floyd W. Northcutt and Dan W. Northcutt of Marietta, GA.
