Robert J. Hudson

Robert J. Hudson, 75, of Marietta, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009. Memorial Service will be 4:00 p.m., Saturday, July 25, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church-Sanctuary in Marietta with the Rev. Dr. Sam Henderson officiating. The burial will be private. Mr. Hudson was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on August 25, 1933 to parents Clarence O’Dell “Jack” Hudson and Romalee Bishop Hudson. He was a member of DeMolay International. Robert was an Eagle Scout; attended Marietta High School, where he lettered in baseball and football. He was a Disc Jockey for WFOM during high school and college; receiving call-ins from classmates requesting songs. Robert attended Georgia Tech where he majored in Electrical Engineering and playing baseball for them. He went into the Air Force Cadets and was commissioned in January 1955 and was active in the US Air Force until April 1956 and also in the Reserves until September 1970. Mr. Hudson was honorably discharged as a Captain. He flew for Delta Airlines from June 1957 until his retirement as a Captain in August of 1993. Robert had more than 30,000 hours flying time and 225 trips to Europe, all on the L1011. He flew cargo on C47’s and DC3’s and DC6’s during his early years. Mr. Hudson was a state officer of the Jaycees and president of the College Park Chapter. He organized the painting of City Hall in College Park and started the Miss College Park Beauty Pageant. Robert was a member of the Marietta Country Club and President of the Harbor Island Homeowners Association. His hobbies included golf, family trips and Ham Radio. Robert was the youngest licensed Ham Radio operator in the state of Georgia. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Bettie Ruth Cox Hudson of Marietta; children, Kari Hudson Callaway of Rayle; Michael Jefferies Hudson & his wife, Lisa of Beaufort, SC; Elizabeth Hudson Bowles & her husband, Steve of Alpharetta; five grandchildren, Haley and Katherine Barton, Michael Bowles all of Alpharetta; India and Grace Callaway of Rayle; several nieces and nephews.
