Sarah Forbis Joyce

Sarah Forbis Joyce, 93, of Marietta, Georgia, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. Born in September 1931 in High Point, North Carolina, she was the daughter of James C. Forbis and Annie Mae Hall Forbis. In 1957, she married W. Frank Joyce Jr., and together they raised two children in High Point, where they made their home for many wonderful years. A graduate of High Point College, Sarah dedicated 30 years to teaching second grade at Jamestown Elementary School, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students. Her commitment to education extended beyond the classroom; she was actively involved in Bible Study Fellowship, and Oakview and Lebanon United Methodist Churches volunteering her time and talents to various church activities. Sarah's family fondly remembers her as a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Her grandchildren cherished summers at "Camp Grandma", filled with visits to the Children's Museum, dollar store shopping, and enjoying hot Krispy Kreme donuts. Her culinary skills were legendary, with homemade pound cakes, pumpkin pies, canned garden green beans, fresh corn, fried okra, macaroni and cheese, and strawberry jelly becoming treasured family staples. In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her daughter, Laura Joyce Heavner; sister, Joann Forbis Tippett and her husband, Bill; brother, Jimmy Forbis and his wife, Barbara; sister-in-law, Sarah Joyce Dodson; and brother-in-law, Donnie Amos. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Frank Joyce; son, David Joyce and his wife, Martha; grandchildren D. Hunter Joyce and his wife, Elizabeth, Elise Joyce, Dr. Emily Heavner and her husband, Steven, and Josh Heavner and his wife, Amanda; great-granddaughter Alyssa Laura Heavner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. The family would like to thank the personal care givers of FPC Hearts 2 Hands and Agape Hospice. A committal service will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Georgia National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agape Hospice Care of Georgia or Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
