Sherman "Sherm" Bridges Smith

Sherman "Sherm" Bridges Smith, 77, of Marietta passed away on Friday, May 23, 2014. A visitation will be held at the Mayes Ward-Dobbins Powder Springs Chapel on Tuesday, May 27th from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28th at Mount Paran Church of God, North Campus in Marietta. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. following the service at the Franklin Springs City Cemetery on Taylor Street in Franklin Springs, Ga. Sherm graduated and received degrees from Emmanuel College, the University of Georgia, and the University of Southern California. In 1962 he began his lifetime career with Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems. He served Lockheed through many roles with travel throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii and in international assignments, including Tehran, Iran. Prior to his retirement, he was serving as the Regional Business Development Manager to Northern Europe. Sherm and his wife, Bett, have been active members of Mount Paran Church of God for more than 40 years. Sherm was a strong supporter of Emmanuel College and served as a Board Member. He was an avid golfer, enthusiastic gardener, and an experienced world traveler. He loved for his family and friends to travel with him in his journeys around the world. He was a dedicated, caring and loving husband throughout his marriage to Bett of more than fifty years. He truly invested in the lives of his children and grandchildren as a proud supporter and encourager. He inspired them all to accomplish their goals, to reach their full potential and he challenged them, with God as their guide, to exceed their expectations. To all who knew him, he was a generous giver and a faithful friend. He is survived by his wife, Bettie Wright Smith of Marietta, two daughters, Sebring Smith Sanders and husband DeWayne of Buchanan, Ga; Shaunda Smith Brooks and husband Gary of Acworth, Ga; one son, Ronson Bridges Smith and wife Ladona of Marietta, Ga; six grandchildren, Ashley Johnson, Lauren Jones, Maxson Smith, Dawson Smith, Trevor Brooks and Kason Brooks, two great grandchildren, Annalyse and Steven Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Roy Bridges Smith and Lavonia Chappell Smith of Newnan, Ga.
