Winifred P. "Winnie" Adair

Winifred Faye Pyles Adair was born on December 24, 1932 to Mattie & John Pyles of Lizella, GA. Winnie and her twin brother Alfred were the youngest of the Pyles’ 15 children. Winnie grew up in a loving home and helped her family on their farm in Crawford County. Winnie much preferred to attend school rather than work on the farm. In fact, she graduated from the Crawford County school system having never missed a day of school in the 11 years she attended public school. Winnie was the salutatorian of her senior class and her love of education eventually led her to a teaching career. After earning a teaching degree from Georgia Southwestern Teacher’s College, Winnie was recruited to teach at McEachern School in Powder Springs in 1954. She lived with several other young teachers in the unmarried teachers’ dormitory on campus. During those first years of her career she met two of her best and lifelong friends, Dot Sanders Carlile and Elsie Williams Owenby. In the early years of her teaching career, Winnie met her future husband Doyle Adair. They were married in 1959 and were together for 44 years until his death in 2003. Winnie and Doyle made their home in Powder Springs and raised their two children Allen and Suzanne. Winnie and Doyle were lifelong members of McEachern Memorial United Methodist Church. Winne taught in Cobb County for 36 years. After retiring in 1992 from Hollydale Elementary School, she enjoyed entertaining, decorating, shopping at garage sales and spending time with friends and family. Winnie and her husband Doyle spent many happy years in their dream home in Powder Springs that Winnie lovingly decorated. She also enjoyed making her famous lemon pound cake, homemade banana pudding and delicious popcorn balls. Her friends and neighbors always looked forward to a visit from Winnie especially when she would bring one of her homemade treats. Winnie was known for her kindness, generosity and good humor. She was loved by everyone who knew her. She lived a full and happy life surrounded by many friends and her family. Few things brought her as much pride and joy as her four granddaughters, Emily, Claire, Ashley & Anna Faith. They were the great loves of her life and they will carry on her legacy. Winnie spent the last 6 years of her life being cared for by angels at Presbyterian Village. As her mind and her health deteriorated, her wonderful caregivers Gina, Nazarene, Pat, Mykishia and Mary never stopped loving and caring for her every need. They have been a comfort and a blessing to Winnie and her family. Winnie is preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Adair. She is survived by her children Allen & Ellen Adair of Marietta and Chris & Suzanne Boesl of Kennesaw, grandchildren Emily & Matthew Bishop of Aragon, Claire Adair and Anna Faith Adair of Marietta, Ashley Boesl of Kennesaw and great grandson Wyatt Adair of Marietta.
